Structure

Currently Cajoutiers have a Lay and Private School Group that includes :

  • A school for hearing children "Les Cajoutiers" composed of a preschool cycle of 3 classes and a primary cycle of 12 classes.

  • A school for deaf children "Graines de Cajou" (Cashew seeds) and "EISEC" an inclusive school with 2 classes.

  • A school for down Syndrome children "Fleurs de Cajou" (Cashew flowers) composed of 3 classes.

These classes now have 539 children, from poor families, for whom schooling was not an option for lack of resources but made possible through sponsorships.

School for hearing children "Les Cajoutiers"

The preschool cycle consists of 3 classes that opened on October 2010 and children between 3 and 6 years old are now part of the life of the Cajoutiers. This preschool allows young students to reach a good level before returning to the elementary school.

The elementary school now has 12 classes where quality teaching is provided by our qualified and qualified teachers. Our students who reach an excellent level as evidenced by the national results of CFEE (certificate of completion of elementary studies), obtained at the end of the cycle.

School for deaf children « Graines de Cajou »

In regards to schooling in Senegal, the government does not offer education adapted for deaf people. There are some small literacy projects where children and adults who are deaf can learn sign language to at least be able to express themselves and communicate, but that is not true schooling. It is therefore for the benefit of young deaf people that the association Les Cajoutiers works and sets up various structures of education, reception, and training.

At Graines de Cajou school level, we have a total enrollment of more than 50 students aged between 4 and 18 years old.

At the EISEC (Inclusive School for Deaf and Hearing Children), we have 2 classes for a total of 56 pupils: 28 deaf pupils as well as 28 hearing pupils are enrolled.

Our goal is still to offer quality education to expand the mind of young people affected by deafness and to teach them how to communicate through sign language as well as basic math, reading and other subjects that will allow them to aquire basic learning and general knowledge. But also from now on, obtaining the Certificate of Completion of Elementary Studies (CFEE) is one of our objectives.

In 2016, a boarding school for deaf girls and boys "Foyer des Cajous" was opened for students from the school whose families are too far away. They live there all year round and only come back for the holidays whenever possible.

School for Down Syndrome children " Fleurs de Cajous "

Since 2015, the school group has a section for students with Down syndrome. In these classes, students learn school subjects, often in a playful way, each at their own pace and according to their means.

Our three classes named "Fleurs de Cajous" welcome 33 students with Down's Syndrome, aged between 3 and 10 years, a small group supervised by Daba, a specialized teacher with boundless motivation, who teaches adapted to these children with disabilities. With the help of Awa and Mathilde, two assistants, students benefit from almost a personalised education.
