Building EISEC : an Inclusive School for Deaf and Hearing Children
For several years Les Cajoutiers has wanted to become even more efficient for the benefit of the young deaf population.
In Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso and Cotonou in Benin, bilingual and inclusive schools for deaf pupils have existed for many years, enabling the deaf to be fully integrated into society. This is also the objective of Les Cajoutiers, so we have chosen to follow this example, a first in Senegal !
This teaching has several objectives : to enable deaf children to
- better integration
- their participation - in the same way as their hearing peers - in the state examination for the elementary school completion certificate (CFEE)
- access to secondary education
- more varied, fun and therefore more effective teaching.
These are inclusive classes where deaf and hearing students will have the same teacher who will teach them in French and sign language.
A collaboration with ASUNOES, a school for the deaf in Benin, began last year with the provision of a teacher with 15 years of experience in the field. It includes in its programme annual training courses of 15 days at the Groupe Scolaire Les Cajoutiers and the welcome of our teachers for 3 months at the inclusive school for the deaf in Benin, an unforgettable experience.
The land on which EISEC is built was purchased 3 years ago thanks to a one-off donation, on the side of the main road. Now that the financing of this first building has been completed, we are now looking for donors and patrons to help us build the second part of the school. For more information, the members of the office are at your disposal via lescajoutiers@gmail.com.
We are organising ourselves for an opening at the start of the next school year with preparation meetings, recruitment of new teachers and pedagogical and specialist training. The toddlers will remain in the current premises and will be prepared for the inclusive primary cycle by working closely with the classic pre-school.
We are therefore fully prepared for the opening of the new school year 2020-2021!
